What would ancient Egypt look like today? Artificial intelligence reveals images that look incredibly realistic

Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) -- Ancient Egyptian architecture is a testament to the greatness of what the ancient Egyptians built, and whether it is the pyramids of Giza or the many ancient temples scattered throughout Upper Egypt, these timeless monuments are still among the most famous examples of architecture. In the world.

According to the concept of artificial intelligence, the Egyptian civilization would have continued to rely on stone and mud bricks if it had survived to this day.

A series of new images imagine what ancient Egypt would have looked like if it remained today, which have been widely shared on social media platforms.

And if you go to visit the archaeological sites of the ancient Egyptian civilization, you will definitely notice the huge columns decorated with carvings depicting the gods and kings of ancient Egypt, among a wide range of scenes.

In an interview with CNN Arabic, Nathan Higginbotham, a British TikTok content creator known as MidjourneyRQ , says he used artificial intelligence to create his hyper-realistic images of what ancient Egypt would have looked like.

Higginbotham explains that this series is part of a project that envisions what ancient civilizations would look like if they survived to the present day, noting that he found the Egyptian civilization to be the best start for his project, as "it is one of the most interesting ancient civilizations," he says.

Through this project, Higginbotham wanted to show the extent of the progress of these civilizations if they continued to the present time, and that they would have surpassed what we have reached today.

"It would have been a great thing to see these civilizations persist for thousands of years, and I wanted to embody that through this project," he explains.

Higginbotham does not hide that the final result of the series exceeded all his expectations, and he attributes this to the ability of artificial intelligence to be creative when it comes to adding cultural touches that would not have been thought of.

"The final images looked really believable," he continues.

As for his view of the debate over whether AI can replace digital artists, Higginbotham says: "I think the human touch in digital art will always be necessary, especially now that AI can't exactly replicate what you want to embody."

And as AI becomes more advanced, the British content creator feels that it is becoming more difficult to tell the difference between art created by AI and art created by a human.

Higginbotham pointed out that his post, which imagines the civilization of ancient Egypt today, received great interaction on the "Tik Tok" platform, as it achieved more than a million views in a short period of time, and it has spread on other social networking sites such as "Instagram", adding: "Many agreed One of the pioneers of social media asserted that the civilization of ancient Egypt, if it remained thriving today, would have been a highly advanced society.

The Alexandria Underwater Museum Project

The seas surrounding the more than 2,000 year old city of Alexandria have been witness to numerous important historical events. Alexander the Great, the Ptolemaic dynasty and Cleopatra VII as well as Napoleon and Nelson are famous names connected with this region. While the Bay of Alexandria still houses the remains of the famous Pharos, one of the seven wonders of the world, as well as the ruins of the Ptolemaic palace, the nearby Bay of Abukir saw the sinking of the ancient cities of Canopus and Herakleion into the ocean and, more recently, in Napoleonic times, it was the site of three naval battles which left numerous shipwrecks on the sea floor.

The first indications of the existence of important underwater cultural heritage in the Western and Eastern Bays of Alexandria were found at the very beginning of the 20th century. It took however many years for real archaeological

excavations to begin.
